How counselling can help

From time to time we can feel overwhelmed, defeated or that things are out of our control. At these times we can all benefit from some help.

Counselling offers a time away from daily life and provides space to reflect and to gain the perspective needed to re-establish a sense of balance.

I can help you to understand how deep feelings and beliefs about yourself , other people or the world around you may be influencing you, affecting your reactions to events and contributing to your current situation. Recognising negative self-talk, self criticism, lack of self esteem and confidence and patterns of unhelpful behaviour can help you to see things more clearly and be very empowering.

I will help you change, or let go of, what is not working in your life: from solving practical problems or making decisions to resolving deeper issues. You can earn to develop skills which enable you to manage life's challenges more effectively and make good decisions that will improve your life now and in the future.

Change can feel very uncomfortable or frightening and it can help to talk over these feelings in a supportive, encouraging environment with someone who is patient and caring and respects your unique needs.

I won't tell you what to do, but we will talk things through, discussing and working together to find answers that suit you. I believe in practical problem solving and where appropriate, providing coping strategies that you can use yourself to help you gain control of your life, for example: relaxation techniques, advice on self help books and CDs, mindfulness, writing in journals and diaries, music as therapy, lifestyle, exercise, nutrition.
