It is very important that you trust your therapist and feel at all times that you are respected and understood. My aim is to create an atmosphere where you feel able to tell me what you need to when it feels right to do so. It is your time and space to use as you wish.
I offer face to face counselling where sessions are held in the privacy of my home which is comfortable and quiet. It is on one level, so easily accessible should you have limited mobility.
A counselling session lasts for 50 minutes.
In person or on-line we will usually sit facing each other. If this is difficult for you, you may prefer using telephone or email.
Counselling is most effective when it is regular, ideally once a week, especially at the start of therapy. In some circumstances, later on it may be agreed that sessions take place less frequently.
Counselling sessions ideally take place on the same day and time each week. This will be agreed with you during our initial discussion if you decide to proceed.
How long does therapy last? Therapy can be open ended - as many sessions as you wish - or we can agree a time limited period of 6 or 8 sessions. This can be reviewed at any time and extended or reduced.
When you first make contact we will talk a bit about your problems and what you hope to achieve, agree on a suitable day and time and arrange an initial appointment.
Our first session together will be spent finding out more about you. I understand that you may feel anxious at first, so I will help guide the process by asking you some questions so that I can get a better understanding of what it is you are feeling and what you are hoping for from counselling. I will also explain more about me and my ways of working. Counselling is a collaborative process. We will always work at your pace and in ways that you feel comfortable with, working together to find answers for you, so that you are empowered to continue growing and developing on your own.
If you have any further questions, I will be happy to answer them.
